Celebrating my OB year at Camp Crimson, Summer 2014. Taken by Jenna Henderson |
My name is Kylie Frisby and I am a senior public relations student minoring in political science and enterprise studies here at the University of Oklahoma. I hail from Okarche, Oklahoma, a small, one-stoplight town in central western Oklahoma.
I am a quiet and reserved person, which is why I am loving this class. Expressing myself through writing is something that I have loved for quite some time and getting to do it via storytelling is simply wonderful. Although I am a quiet person, I love to be involved in my community and campus. At OU, I am involved in various organizations and clubs. I have listed below some of the things I am involved in this semester here at OU.
- Alpha Gamma Delta President
- PE-ET Member
- President's Leadership Class Burr Scholar
- Student Government Association's Director of the Interior
- OU Tour Guide and Team Lead
- Vice Chair of Creative for CAC High School Leadership Conference
- Gaylord College of Journalism and Mass Communication Ambassador
Being involved and engaged in the world around me is something I really enjoy. I thrive on responsibility and a busy schedule. I'm not good with downtime but when I do have free time, I love to read, play guitar, spend quality time with my friends and family, and volunteer at local non-profits.
This year, I am taking a wide variety of classes, but all of them have my heart. I am taking my Public Relations Capstone, Introduction to Business, Introduction to Human Relations, The American Presidency, and this course!
Over the summer, I had some great experiences. I was fortunate enough to travel with Dean of Students, Clarke Stroud and Dean of the College of International Studies, Suzette Grillot to Europe as a part of a short study abroad. We visited England, France, Belgium, The Netherlands, and Holland. Upon my arrival back in Oklahoma, I worked as a Senior Counselor at Oklahoma Girls State and a Small Group Leader at Camp Crimson. I attended Alpha Gamma Delta's International Convention in Indianapolis and I had two internships. I had the distinct honor of working in the Constituent Services Department of the Office of the Governor of Oklahoma this summer as a caseworker. Secondly, I interned as a Campaign Summer Staff Assistant on Governor Fallin's re-election campaign. It was a busy summer, but I still had time to spend with my family and friends back at home in Okarche.
That is a little about me! I can't wait to get this semester rolling and to start my last year here at the University of Oklahoma in a positive way.
Your introduction was elegantly written and laid out, I envy your skills! :) You are so very busy, but yet so passionate about your work, commitments, and activities. It's very inspiring to say the least! I cannot imagine participating in so many events over the summer, and still having time for myself. Your time management skills must be amazing. I hope this semester goes well for you!
ReplyDeleteKylie, I am so glad that you are in this class with me! You did write a very good introduction, but I noticed that there were some things missing. First off, you forgot to mention some of the awesome people that went with you on the Europe trip (me, obviously) and that you got to spend your 21st birthday in Paris. Also, I see you mentioned that you play guitar a little in your free time, but I saw nothing mentioned of your beautiful singing voice that is often showed off to our alumni and donors. I hope that this comment has let everyone know how even more talented you are than you let on.
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh, Kylie, I know about that trip! Suzette Grillot is someone I follow at Twitter because she is always sharing pictures and also information about CIS events and so on. You went to some AMAZING places on that trip!!! I bet you will find so many possible connections between your classes and other activities in this class. Maybe you could do a Storybook with legends about the presidents... that is such a rich part of American political folklore - kind of modern mythology about the leaders of our nation! Anyway, I am so glad you are enjoying the class so far and it sounds like you are going to have a fabulous semester all around!!!
ReplyDeleteHey Kylie! My twin, Alex, did his studies in political science as well. He also loves working for non-profits! Currently he works at the food bank up in the city! I'm jealous of the places that you got to go over seas. I hear that those places are beautiful and would really like to see them some day. It seems like trying to fit all the things that you have done in one page for a resume would be extremely difficult. I hope to read more of your stories in the coming weeks!
ReplyDeleteWow it sounds like you are a really busy student right now! I think it is cool that you have been able to be so involved in so many aspects of programs OU offers! I am also in a sorority and I feel that it has been a great experience to get involved in and really help connect me to OU. Hope you are having a great semester so far!
ReplyDeleteYou’re energy and enthusiasm to get out and there accomplish things is really admirable. I can’t imagine having to balance so many things on my plate at once, but you seem to have made an art of it. I envy your ability to push the boundaries of your reserved personality and get so much accomplished. I hope you have a great final year at OU!
ReplyDeleteWhat a full plate you had over the summer and this semester! I love hearing about all the different activities people are involved with. Like you, I like to be very involved and to keep myself busy…helps me stay out of trouble, ha! Seeing your picture on your profile I immediately recognized you as a member of Alpha Gamma Delta; I was on the Sooners Helping Sooners executive team last year, and remember you coming to speak in one of our meeting after the house fire. So hopefully things are better in that regard, and good luck with your senior year!
ReplyDeleteHi Kylie! The more introductions I read, the more public relations majors I’m finding! I am a PR major as well. It sounds like you had an eventful and interesting summer! I think it’s cool that you attended Alpha Gamma Delta's International Convention in Indianapolis because I’m from Indiana! Of course, it’s also very cool that you studied abroad this summer as well…haha.
ReplyDeleteKylie!
ReplyDeleteI had no idea you were in this class. Haha. It sounds like you have been super busy this year! I am jealous of your travels. I have always wanted to go to anywhere in the eastern hemisphere, but have never been able to do it yet! What non-profits do you volunteer for? I don't know how you have time to do all of these things! It seems that between my job and schoolwork, I have time to do nothing else!

Hi Kylie, nice to meet you! Holy moly are you one busy girl. Before I transferred to OU, I was involved with a lot of things at my other school, and I agree, I liked having responsibility and a busy schedule. That 's exciting that you are a senior this year. You are almost finished! I'll be honest, I've never heard of the town you are from, but I am not very familiar with little towns in Oklahoma. I'm glad you are enjoying this class, and I hope you have a great and busy semester!
ReplyDeleteHey girly! I had no idea you were in this class too! Funny how our lives become intertwined after we worked together this summer! It has been so good seeing you around campus and now in one of my class. I hope everything is going well for you in your senior year and for you in Alpha Gam! I am so impressed with how many things you have been involved with on campus! Hoping for a good senior year for you and a great rest of the semester!
ReplyDeleteWow, you sound really busy! I know what you mean about needing it - over the summer I didn't do anything but work and only after school started back up did I get my motivation for things again. All those campus activities though, whew! I'm impressed, I could barely keep up with a couple of clubs.
ReplyDeleteThat must have been a super experience over the summer, I'm so glad you got to go! I hope the rest of your senior year is just as fantastic!
(Also, your background reminded me of Charlotte Perkin Gilman's "The Yellow Wallpaper")
Wow, Kylie! After reading about all that you do and are involved with, I can't believe that you have the time to be ahead with your work for this class! Studying abroad sounds like it was amazing! You went to so many different places. I've always wanted to visit Europe so I'm just a tad bit jealous. It's funny that you mention that you are from Okarchee - it's pretty small and not a lot of people have heard about it, but I'm from Edmond and one of our favorite places to go is Eischen's. We may have to wait for 3 hours but, man, that chicken is worth it! I hope to meet you in person sometime soon! I've met a lot of your sisters through homecoming and they're all great people!
ReplyDeleteHello Kylie! Okarche has some great fried chicken! That is about all I know about the little town. I can’t believe how involved you are on campus. I do not see how you juggle all of the organizations and class. Also the busy summer you had as well. It is quite amazing how well you multitask. I hope your last year is going great and I wish you the best of luck.
ReplyDeleteKylie,
ReplyDeleteWow! It sounds like you definitely have a lot on your plate, I bet you are a very busy student. I'm jealous of your travels abroad. I have always wanted to travel to europe, mainly Italy. The great thing about europe I hear though, is that once you are there, it is very easy to travel from country to country.
Hey Kylie! For being such a quiet person you certainly are involved in a lot! I'm sure you can't be too reserved as the president of your house! I think that it is wonderful that you challenge yourself by stepping out of the box and involving yourself with as much as you can handle! I am very similar to you in that aspect! I'm glad that you are really enjoying your classes this semester! I hope you have a wonderful weekend!
ReplyDeleteWow! You are so involved in campus! But even though you’re so involved, it’s great that you have a lot of other interests outside of the clubs you're involved in. Although I can’t play guitar (though I’d love to learn), I do enjoy reading. I also love traveling, and like you I have visited France and England. Out of the four places you’ve gone, which one was your favorite? Anyways, I hope you’ve had a great semester so far!
ReplyDeleteKylie - wow, you really take being involved to a whole new extreme! You definitely extended yourself across many different activities. Good for you! I also see you are in PR Capstone this semester. I am too! So obviously you are in Owen's class - lucky you!!! Capstone has definitely been a very busy and stressful for me this semester, so hope yours has been better. Good luck with this semester!
ReplyDeleteHi Kylie! I think it's great that you're so involved. I don't know how you can handle it all! Like you I thrive on being busy, if not i'll be just a couch potato all day. It definitely helps your motivation to be productive with your time. Your summer sounded so adventurous! I hope you have a great rest of the semester.
