Week One: Un-Textbook

I'm going to be completely honest. I don't know very much about mythology or folklore. My parents were never ones to share wise tales, although I did grow up reading a lot of books. I have some background in reading these types of stories, but I am so excited to dig deeper and analyze the message behind the stories.

When reading through the Un-Textbook (love the name by the way), I found several topics and stories that stood out to me:

1. Beowulf: I read this book when I was in high school and was absolutely fascinated by it. Coming from a small high school, we didn't have the best education. So, I would love to delve more into the story and have more of an opportunity to learn more about it.

2. Dante's Inferno: This is a story that I have always wanted to read, but never have. The fact that the poem brings in figures from history seems really interesting to me and I would love to read more about it. I think that bringing in some history within this lesson would be neat!

3. American Indian Tales: As a person of Native American descent, I think that the stories of American Indians are very interesting. These stories have strong ties to the culture and heritage of Oklahoma so I think that although I don't know very much about them, reading them would be really neat.

4. Gospel of Mark: I am not a very religious person, however, I think that religion and sacred texts are so interesting if read and appreciated. The Gospel of Mark, as I understand it, includes many parables that are applicable to daily life. I think telling these stories in a more modern way could be really fun!
